The company's Burnaby processing plant had for years only been operating at 20-per-cent capacity, so the Kidd. Bros and Gary Eldridge decided to increase the volume, literally five times without much capital cost, by sending a 20-foot container of honey to Shanghai for only $2,000. Gary stated that with the amount of goods being shipped from China to Canada and back, it was cheaper to ship to China than truck it to Toronto at the time.
